SUMMARY: Southwest Elementary School opened in August 1999 at a cost of about $8 million. The 88,000-square-foot school is equipped with state-of-the-art computer labs and specialized classrooms for art, music and special educations. Programs and activities include Accelerated Reader, after-school tutorials, SEARCH, band, chorus and computer labs. The school's business partners include Coca-Cola, Fox's Pizza, Shoney's, Piggly Wiggly, Kroger and McDonald's. The school mascot is the gator. School colors are forest green and khaki.
