SCHOOL SUMMARY: Islands Elementary School opened in the early 1990s at a cost of about $7 million.
It was named after its location on Whitemarsh Island. The school, which has about 40 classrooms and 52 teachers, was built with a marine theme and boasts a specialized "wetlands curriculum."
The surrounding land contains a wetlands area, complete with a pond and observation walkway where students learn about local plants and animals.
The school mascot is a dolphin and the school¼s theme is "The Wave of the Future."
