SCHOOL SUMMARY: May Howard Elementary School opened in the late '50s. It was named after the late Mrs. Lee Howard, Sr. (May DuBignon Howard).
Howard was known throughout the community for her dedication to public
education. For more than 30 years, she was an active PTA worker.
She also was vice president of the Board of Education; president of the Chatham County Parent-Teacher Association and a former president of the Chatham County Council of PTAs. Howard held various offices in the Georgia Congress of Parents and Teachers.
